Chief Executive Officer

James Nieuwenhuys is the Chief Executive Officer of Lesego Platinum, a world class PGM asset located some 300 km North-East of Johannesburg, at the northern end of the Eastern limb of the platinum rich Bushveld Complex.

He is in the process of driving a development strategy for this asset, which will result in an innovative mechanized mining method, utilizing fuel cell driven equipment, state-of –the-art process facility and downstream processing of platinum into jewelry, investment pieces and fuel cells.James has an enviable professional track record and experience, having recently completed 5 years as Chief Operating Officer for Polyus Gold, the largest gold producer in Russia, followed by a stint as Chief Representative for Polyus in Beijing.

He held Managing Director positions in two of the most active EPCM organizations, being Bateman Projects and SNC-Lavalin. James has all the attributes to make the Lesego dream a reality.


Richard Montjoie

Richard Montjoie

Project Manager

Richard Montjoie serves as Project Manager for the Lesego Project. He holds a B.Sc. Honours in Geology from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and is fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) and a member for the Society of Economic Geologists, and a registered member of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).

Richard has over 14 years' experience in mineral project development globally. Richard has been involved in several brownfield and greenfield mineral exploration programs in South Africa and Northern Canada, including various Ni-PGE, diamond, coal, coal bed methane and gold exploration and mining projects. Richard provides sound geoscientific and technical input in development planning to ensure effective data acquisition, management and project execution.

Richard has been involved in the Lesego project since it's inception back in 2005, and manages various facets of the project, including the technical, social, licencing and corporate aspects.

Richard successfully acted as Project Manager for defining the 39 Moz platinum feasibility study, advancing the project from exploration stage to a completed bankable feasibility study, with proven and probable reserves, on time and under budget.


Peter Sebake

Peter Sebake

Stakeholder Engagement Manager

Peter Sebake heads up the Lesego Corporate Social Investment portfolio, and is co-founder and executive chairman of Kodumela Bokamoso Youth Development which was founded in 2009 and focuses on developing young people through education.

Peter has been involved in mentoring, counselling, motivating and teaching young people for more than 17 years. He has been working with Lesego Platinum since 2012 as Stakeholder Engagement Officer dealing with Mphahlele, Tau Mankotsana and Baroka ba Nkwana communities and with the Department of Mineral Resources and other government departments and stakeholders.

Peter grew up in the rural area of De Vrede village around Blouberg Municipality, Limpopo. Peter is passionate about rural community development and seeing communities improved and is gifted at creating long term positive and lasting relationships with communities.


Mr. Xia Dong (Jeff)

Non-Executive Director

Jeff is a non-executive director of Lesego Platinum. He holds a B.Admin in Financial Management from University of International Business and Economics, China.

Jeff is an experienced professional in China's outbound mining investment sector.

He started his career in China's largest state-owned diversified investment holding group CITIC, as a financial accountant. Then after a few years of sell-side M&A advisory career, focusing on China's outbound investment in mineral resources (especially in Southern Africa and Australia), Jeff moved to the buy-side, participated in the establishment of a mining private equity business, funded by prominent Chinese groups from both private and state-owed sectors.

Jeff participated in the acquisition of Village Main Reef by China's leading private equity group Heaven-Sent Capital ('HSC'), and currently serves as the principal of outbound M&A for HSC.


Mr. Sheng Zhang (Michael)

Non-Executive Director

Michael is a non-executive director of Lesego Platinum. He holds a L.L.M degree from the University of California at Berkeley after graduated from Peking University with a dual Bachelor degree in law and economics.

Michael currently serves as the general counsel of Heaven-Sent Capital Management Group ('HSC'). He has considerable experience in outbound investment and Mergers & Acquisitions. Prior to joining HSC, Mr. ZHANG was a lawyer at Fangda Partners, a leading PRC law firm, and before that, he worked at the Beijing office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Michael is admitted to practice law in both New York State, USA and People's Republic of China.


Phillip Spencer

Chief Financial Officer

Phillip Spencer is the Chief Financial Officer for the Lesego project. He holds a B. Acc Honours degree from the University of the Free State and is registered as a Chartered Accountants (CA) (South Africa) with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Phillip has operated in the energy and natural resources sector for more than 15 years with a specific passion for gold and platinum. Phillip was a partner at KPMG Inc until 2012 when he joined Gold One Group Limited as the Chief Financial Officer. He has extensive experience with financial reporting, audit, taxation, management accounting and treasury matters and has developed and implemented a number of systems to support these processes. Phillip has experience in Hong Kong Initial Public Offering (IPO) process and listing requirements.

Phillip joined Lesego in 2018 with a focus of financial and funding for the Lesego project.

In addition to his role at Lesego, Phillip acts as a Senior Advisor for the Village Main Reef Group.
